Things looked a little bleak after the first period but the Steinbach Pistons stuck with the program and came away with four unanswered goals leading them to a 4-1 win over Selkirk on Tuesday night.
The opening period forecasted what the entire game would end up being, lots of extra curricular activities after whistles, little to no space through any of the zones and lots of chatter.
Steinbach cut a path to the penalty box and it allowed the Steelers to capitalize, grabbing a 1-0 lead on their second man advantage of the game.
The Pistons took another penalty late but managed to kill it off going 2-3 in the period but the Steelers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second, it was Steinbach's turn to get power plays but despite a couple of man advantage opportunities, the power play looked lethargic and unsure, which allowed the Steelers to kill off the first two power plays of the game for Steinbach.
Things would change on the third power play chance.
Reece Gault used his legs to keep the puck in at the blueline, wheeled around and hit Mathis Laplante with a great pass for the tip-in goal to tie the game 1-1.
For "Le Bon Garcon", it's his 15th of the year. Gault along with Grady Hoffman picked up the assists.
A few minutes later, Spencer Penner used his speed to drive into the Steelers zone. As he protected the puck, he bullied his way into the corner and fired out a pass to Connor Paronuzzi who some how managed to sneak a puck around the Steelers goalie and in for his 16th of the season.
Another power play would give the Pistons a chance to extend the lead and once again, it was Paronuzzi doing the damage as he finished off a beautiful pass from Brett Kaiser, scoring his second of the game and 17th of the year, giving Steinbach a 3-1 lead.
Things continued to be chippy throughout the second period and several times, players on both sides had to be kept apart by the officials.
Things were at a boiling point through much of the third but both teams stayed on their best behaviour, for the most part.
Down by two, the Steelers pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but it was Penner again making a solid play in the defensive zone which got the puck to Hoffman who aimed and secured the win with the empty net goal, his 11th of the season.
Tempers would flare late as a Steeler slashed at goalie Christian Green after he had covered a puck and that got the attention of several Pistons including Brayden Barnett who stepped up to squash any more nonsense.
Time melted away and Steinbach shook off their three game slide with a 4-1 win.
Christian Green was solid making 22 saves for the win.
Steinbach's power play went 2-6 while the penalty kill was a strong 4-5.
The Pistons continue their home stand as they welcome in the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Thursday night. They'll follow that with another home game against the Swan Valley Stampeders Friday.
