Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported a continued decline in active cases and intensive care patients in her latest COVID-19 update.

Tuesday's (Nov. 9) numbers showed 422 new cases reported after 8,330 tests, putting the positivity rate at about 5.1 per cent.

Hinshaw compared it to the seven-day average positivity on Sept. 27, which was 11.3 per cent.

Though the number of hospitalizations remained at 608, the number of intensive care patients decreased by seven, currently sitting at 128.

An additional eight deaths were reported, though Hinshaw also said that four previous deaths had been reclassified.

The total number of fatalities increased to 6,090.

Given the direction Alberta's daily COVID numbers have been taking, Dr. Hinshaw announced she will be providing just one COVID update a week (every Tuesday) moving forward.

She also addressed a question regarding Health Canada's recent approval of Pfizer booster shots for all adults.

According to Hinshaw, AHS will continue to listen to the National Advisory Committee as well as Alberta's own advisory committee regarding recommendations for third doses for the general population.

She says there's not currently a timeline for when booster shots could be made available for all Albertans 18 and up.

She did note that the province will continue to recommend booster shots for those who are most at risk in the case of breakthrough infections.
