The Royal Canadian Legion in Kenora will be hosting an in-person Remembrance Day ceremony today (November 11, 2021) that will be open to the public.

COVID-19 forced the Legion to have a closed-door live-streamed ceremony in 2020. This year with COVID-19 restrictions loosening, the Legion is now able to invite the public to join in.

Jason Lava is the Poppy/Remembrance Day Chair for the Legion and said they were pleased when the restrictions loosened.

“It’s nice to be able to open the hall to nearly full capacity and be able to see people again,” said Lava.

The ceremony will kick off at 10:30 a.m. upstairs in the Legion (300 McClellan Ave) auditorium.

Following the ceremony, weather permitting, members will lay wreaths in front of the Cairn.

To conclude the ceremony a parade down to the Cenotaph will be held weather permitting.

All COVID-19 measures will be in place throughout the ceremony including proof of vaccination to enter the Legion.

The ceremony will also be live-streamed on Youtube if people can’t attend the event in person.

Lava concluded by saying people can stay up to date with the ceremony, and Legion events on their Facebook page.
