The province of Manitoba is expanding its eligibility for who can get a third COVID-19 vaccine.

On Wednesday the province is announcing anyone aged 18-years-old or older can get a third vaccine. The additional dose must be given at least six months after the second.

"The province is recommending the third dose to individuals who are at an increased risk of serious illness from COVID-19, their caregivers and close contacts," the statement says.

All COVID-19 vaccine locations will offer third doses.

The province says they are expecting 2,250 doses of the Janssen vaccine to arrive at some medical clinics and pharmacies. Adults who get this vaccine will be considered fully immunized 14 days after the initial dose, but the province recommends a second, mRNA dose be given. These vaccines have not yet arrived in Manitoba.

To date, 2,109,981 total doses of vaccine have been given out in Manitoba.

Winnipeg will see popups this week including:

  • Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at NorWest on Alexander, 1880 Alexander Avenue
  • Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Vital Centre near Hudson’s Bay, 86-1225 St. Mary’s Road
  • Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kildonan Place near the food court, 1555 Regent Avenue West
