The Humboldt Broncos now own the longest point streak in the SJHL.

After the Flin Flon Bombers had their 26-game point streak snapped on Tuesday to the Nipawin Hawks, the Broncos continued to roll in their winning ways defeating the Estevan Bruins 4-1 on Wednesday night. The victory brought their win streak to five games while extending their point streak to eight games.

It took a while for the goal scoring to make a splash for either side, especially with the game being pushed back an extra half-hour due to the weather conditions. 34 minutes into the game, the Broncos and Boris Kofman found the opening goal to give Humboldt the first goal of the game for the fifth straight time.

Kofman would add his second of the game and 10th of the season in the 3rd period to elevate him to 43 points on the season. Kofman has set a new career high for goals, assists, and points in a season.

The Bruins didn’t appear like they had just sat on a bus for six-plus hours when the game started. Although it was evident the Broncos were able to wear them down as the game progressed.

Following Kofman’s two goals, Jeter Korte added a 3-0 lead with his 10th of the year, and Cade Kennedy scored against his former team for his 11th of the season and a 4-0 lead.

Brady Holtvogt received the start in net for Humboldt and was 5:48 away from securing his second shutout of the season. However, Kieran Ronan unfortunately prevented that from coming to fruition, scoring his fourth of the season for a 4-1 final. Holtvogt did improve on his already impressive rookie season stopping 28/29 to give the Humboldt native a 6-1-1-0 record on the year.

A huge divisional weekend looms ahead.

The Broncos will take on the Kindersley Klippers, who have been their kryptonite this year, in back-to-back games this weekend starting with Friday in Kindersley. The Klippers have won four of five meetings this season and sit just two points behind the Broncos in the standings.
