The provincial government has opened its first-ever recovery centre for eating disorders.
According to the province, they've invested $10 million over three years to build the facility in Calgary. The Silver Linings Foundation also raised $4 million in capital funding.
"Eating disorders can often be misunderstood and can go unrecognized or underdiagnosed. With the opening of this centre, young Albertans can now get the care they deserve and have better access to intensive treatment to better support them in their recovery," said Dan Williams, Minister of Mental Health and Addiction.

The 12-bed facility will be able to provide 52 youth and young adults with free treatment every year.
"The centre offers an individualized approach to care, with around-the-clock support from a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, nurses, counsellors, and support staff," wrote the province.
The facility was made for residents between the ages of 12 and 24 and had its first client in 2024. According to the province, 18 patients have been admitted since then.
