The Northwestern Health Unit continues to see vaccination rates increase across the region.

As it stands the region is reporting a vaccination rate of 89.8 per cent of those eligible receiving their first dose, and 84.6 per cent fully vaccinated.

Provincially, 88.7 per cent have gotten one dose, while 85.6 per cent are fully immunized.

As the region begins to transition into the colder months, the NWHU began hosting large-scale COVID-19 walk-in clinics again. Residents can receive their first, second, or third dose of the vaccine. Flu shots have also been added to those walk-in clinics.

Each clinic will be clearly labeled as an Influenza, or a COVID-19 walk-in clinic, or both.

The public can book their flu shot or their COVID-19 vaccine on the NWHU online booking site.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP, Greg Rickford took a minute to thank the hardworking staff at the NWHU.

“Hats off to the Northwestern Health Unit. Apparently, the clinics at Seven Gens are running very smoothly, people are very pleased with the flow, and other places such as local pharmacies are going pretty good,” said Rickford.

Over the last week, the province has seen an increase in daily COVID-19 cases. Ontario’s seven-day average is 573 cases, which is up from 476 cases at this point last week.

Yesterday (November 15, 2021), the province saw 552 new cases of COVID-19.

“We got to stay vigilant, our numbers are quite low here but Manitoba is on the rise again, and we have a little bit of a number spike in Southern Ontario. We’re getting through it but it’s still has a little bit of back and forth,” concluded Rickford.

The increase in daily COVID-19 cases led the provincial government to push pause last week, on phase two of Ontario’s reopening plan. Phase two would have started on Monday (November 15, 2021), and would have removed capacity limits on the remaining higher-risk settings not included in phase one.

The government along with the Chief Medical Health Officer will continue to monitor key public health indicators for the next  28 days to determine when it is safe to lift capacity limits in the mentioned settings.
