Local musician Brettyn Rose is getting some national attention.

Rose was recently announced as one of the semi-finalists in SiriusXM and the CCMA's Top of the Country contest.

"I was selected from everyone across Canada. There's eight of us going to the semi-finals," Rose says. "And so with that, we get to go to either Toronto or Vancouver to record a brand-new song and film a video. And we get to take our band and go there for the day. It'll be so much fun."

Once all of the songs and videos have been recorded and put out, Canadians can cast their vote for which musician they wish to see progress into the top three.

The top three musicians will then get to do a summer of showcasing all over Canada, along with some interesting performing opportunities.

"The competition ends at the CCMA's in Kelowna this year. They have a finale concert. So, the top three get to perform and that's where they'll crown the winner."

The winner of the competition will be awarded a $25,000 prize and mentorship opportunities.

"It's really, really cool, and all of those things sound fun. I hope I get to do those."

Rose said she had to apply to be part of this contest, but when she first got the call about being a semi-finalist, she didn't answer.

"It was from a number I don't have saved in my phone, which I missed the first one. And then they called me again later that day," Rose explains.

Normally, Rose won't answer the phone if she doesn't recognize the number, but she is thankful she answered that call.
