Crews are completing some avalanche control in Kananaskis Country, causing some areas to be intermittently closed.

As part of the avalanche control methods, crews are using explosives to set off a controlled avalanche to help keep hikers and climbers safe.

On top of that, thanks to an ongoing avalanche cycle in the Spray Valley region and more snow than what is expected in the southern parts of the Spray Valley area, have caused very dangerous avalanche conditions.

Due to that, it is being advised to not travel in the avalanche terrain.

When people were out in the dogleg area of Spray Valley over the weekend, an avalanche had occurred but was contained to an open area.

Currently, the area is under a High Avalanche risk warning.

A bit further south, the area west of the Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle Land Use Zone is experiencing a considerable avalanche risk as well.

While travelling in those areas, it's advised to stick to the conservative terrain areas, such as fewer steep areas, to prevent getting caught in an avalanche.

Due to recent snowfall, there is some fresh snow resting on a problematic and persistent slab.

Because once slabs of snow begin moving, they may step down to deeper layers, which results in large avalanches, so people are being reminded to not become complacent while in those areas.
