The Friends of Foothills Schools Foundation held its first-ever Heart of Education Gala, which was also its first fundraiser of the year.
It was held on Feb. 7 at The Ranch House in Okotoks, featuring George Canyon, artist Renee Gould, and a silent auction featuring many donated items.
The foundation is dedicated to raising funds to support local school initiatives. Last year, it provided funds for three local projects, including a new theatre lighting control system for Highwood High.

All in all, it brought in $9,500.
The group's executive director, Marica Borovich Law, is thrilled with the reception.
"Based on what transpired that evening, we are going to do it again next year. We already have some individuals in mind to provide the entertainment, so everything is a go for next year, so people, keep February open on your calendars and you'll hear more about it as we go along."
She feels the success of the gala is definitely an indicator that the foundation's profile is growing within the community.
"I think we're creating the awareness. People are understanding that when they give to the foundation, they're really supporting the learners in our Foothills School Division community. That we're opening doors for our kids., giving them chances, giving them some options to advance not only their education but how they work within their communities and how they can embrace education."
The Friends of Foothills Schools Foundation's next big event is the second annual golf tournament to be held at the Highwood Golf Club on June 14.
