A new High River cenotaph will hopefully be in place for this year's Remembrance Day.
The current cenotaph in front of the Highwood Centre only represents the Great War (WW I) as it was built almost 100 years ago, said Highwood Memorial Board Society Chair Tim Whitford.
"The original cenotaph was built in 1934, and it was installed on 3rd Avenue, and the dedication ceremony was on November 11th that year."
The Highwood Centre is in partnership with the High River Royal Canadian Legion as they have $60,000 to raise for the new cenotaph.
Whitford added that the new cenotaph will recognize all the wars Canada has been involved in as well as peacekeeping troops.
"It will start with the Boer War, and we list out everywhere that Canada has been and had a declaration of war, so Afghanistan is on that list. And then at the bottom category we're going to recognize the U.N. peacekeeping missions that Canada's been represented in. I believe there have been 14 to date. It recognizes all of the veterans, not just the ones who didn't come home."
You can find out much more this Saturday at 'Showcase High River'.
It runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Highwood Centre, with entry by food bank donation.
