The Government of Alberta tabled its 2025 budget this week, and Alberta Municipalities' (ABmunis) initial response finds it to be a "mixed bag."

In a media release, the municipal advocacy group went over the highs and lows of the budget soon after it was released.

Positives include increased funding forĀ Grants in Place of Taxes, and the increase in capital funding under the Local Government Fiscal Framework.

ABmunis did voice displeasure in decreases to infrastructure funding elsewhere in the budget, though.

The $105 million allocated for Family and Community Social Services over the 2025-2026 was another disappointment for the group, as they predict the province's growing population will see an increase in demand for these services, which the flat amount of dining would not be able to meet.

ABmunis also contrasted the personal income tax reduction with the increase inĀ provincial education property taxes, with he group predicting the latter will negatively impact property owners.
