The High River RCMP are investigating the damage that was inflicted on a local couple's home and vehicles.

On Tuesday (March 5) at 6:36 a.m., the High River RCMP received a mischief complaint at a residence in town.

The person who called in to complain reported that two of their vehicles were damaged and a window in the house was broken, potentially around 12:30 a.m.

High River RCMP are asking for assistance in identifying the person of interest (POI) in this investigation.

The POI is described as being male and wearing a black jacket and grey pants, as seen in security footage captured nearby.

The RCMP has confirmed that this is at the High River home that had a rock thrown through their front window and their vehicles damaged, which the homeowner believes was due to him being American and flying both the American and Canadian flags outside the home.

But, the RCMP isn't sure it was hate motivated.

"There are allegations that this is hate motivated, as the home has an American flag displayed. In order to prove this allegation, a suspect would have to be identified and there would have to be an admission of this fact. We cannot assume this was the reason for the mischief," the RCMP said in a statement about the incident.

Anyone with information on the POI is encouraged to contact the High River RCMP Detachment at 403-652-2357.

Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by internet at www.tipsubmit.com.
