Two people are recovering after being stabbed in two different attacks in downtown Winnipeg.
Just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, a 37-year-old man became involved in an unprovoked argument with an unknown man, while walking in the 800 block of Main Street. It quickly escalated, ending with the victim being stabbed.
Officers were called to the scene, but the suspect fled before police arrived.
The 37-year-old victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition but later upgraded to stable.
Just over an hour later, at around 2:15 p.m. officers received a second report of a man being stabbed near Main Street and Pioneer Avenue.
This time police say a 61-year-old man was approached by the suspect who requested a cigarette. Unprovoked, the suspect pulled out a knife, stabbed the victim and fled on foot.
The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
Police eventually tracked down the suspect less than an hour later in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. he was arrested without incident.
A 23-year-old man from Winnipeg is facing two charges of assault with a weapon and two charges of possession of a weapon.
He remains in custody.
