While Airdrie is not under any weather warnings, snowfall from Sunday night will continue into Monday morning. Meanwhile, Banff National Park and parts of Kananaskis Country remain under snowfall warnings, with heavy accumulation making travel hazardous.
Roads across the region are slick and snow-covered, creating difficult conditions for commuters. The QEII Highway is partly covered in snow in both directions, with icy sections, slush, blowing snow and reduced visibility.
North of Airdrie, Highway 2A from the Highway 72 junction to Township Road 292 is fully covered in snow, with slippery conditions and snow buildup along the shoulders. Within Calgary, major commuter routes, including Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail, remain snow-covered, making travel difficult. Drivers are advised to allow extra time and check conditions before heading out.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued snowfall warnings for Banff and Kananaskis as heavy snow continues.
In Banff, a total snowfall of 10 to 25 centimetres is expected before conditions improve later this morning. ECCC warns that accumulating snow could make travel difficult, particularly on highways, roads, and walkways. Drivers are urged to adjust to changing conditions, watch for reduced visibility, and be prepared to stop if necessary.
Kananaskis Country is seeing similar conditions, with snowfall amounts ranging from 10 to 20 centimetres. Snow will continue spreading south along the foothills before tapering off later in the morning. Accumulations will vary depending on terrain, and rapidly changing conditions may make travel hazardous.
Locally, snowfall in Airdrie is expected to ease as conditions improve throughout the day. Snow will taper off late this morning, leaving a mix of sun and cloud. An additional two to four centimetres is expected, with north winds at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 before becoming light later in the day. The high will reach 3 C, though wind chill will make it feel closer to -13 C in the morning.
Overnight, skies will be partly cloudy with a low of -12 C and a wind chill near -15 C.
Tuesday will bring clearing skies and a high of 6 C. Westerly winds will pick up to 20 km/h, gusting to 40 by midday. The wind chill in the morning will make it feel like -15 C.
