Margaret Meckelborg
July 4, 1937 – March 4, 2025

It is with great sadness, but also with profound gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Margaret Meckelborg at the age of 87. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering optimism that will forever inspire those who knew her. Born in 1937, Margaret grew up in a loving family with six siblings – five sisters and one brother. From an early age, she displayed a passion for learning and an adventurous spirit that would shape her remarkable journey through life. After earning her nursing education, she dedicated many years to the field as a registered nurse and nursing instructor, before transitioning into nursing curriculum management. Her commitment to healthcare and education left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues. Recognized for her contributions to teaching, she was honored with the Garth Ferguson Award for Excellence in Televised Teaching in 1998. Even after retiring from her full-time career, she took on casual work with an independent living company that allowed her to serve seniors with the same compassion and dedication that defined her career. A woman of many talents, Margaret had a lifelong love of music. She was an excellent singer and played the saxophone, later joining her sisters in the Korte Sisters singing group. In the early 1980s, she traveled to Europe with St. Peter’s Choir, sharing her musical gifts on an international stage. Beyond music, she was actively involved in the figure skating community, volunteering for years as a judge. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she learned how to fly an airplane and became a proud member of the 99s, a group of female pilots. She served on the Saskatchewan Health Authority Board and had un unwavering belief in the power of independent thinking, a value she instilled in her children. Her adventurous nature extended well into her later years; after turning 65, she took up new skills like clogging and lapidary during her winters in Yuma with her beloved husband. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, John, and her son, Neil. She is survived by her three remaining children, Carrie (Michael) Winter, Shawn (Sharmagne) Meckelborg, and Rene Meckelborg, her cherished eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her loving siblings. She trusted everyone, sometimes to a fault, but her generous heart and willingness to help others never wavered. She was a woman of deep faith, self-confidence, and, at times, undeniable stubbornness. Through all of life’s challenges, she remained an eternal optimist. Her family and friends will forever remember her warm spirit, infectious enthusiasm, and boundless love. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she led. May she rest in peace, reunited with those she loved and missed, and may her legacy live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
