David Bexte is the new conservative candidate for MP in the Bow River riding.

Members of the Conservative Party of Canada met in Strathmore on Friday, Mar. 7, to vote between Bexte, JL DeCosta, Josh Senneker, and Graham Abela.

All four candidates were given a few minutes before voting to reiterate their values, beliefs, and plans for if they became the new MP.

Following the speeches, a long line of voters went down the halls of the Strathmore Travelodge to cast their votes. By the following morning, it was announced that Bexte was the new candidate.

"This victory belongs to all of us, and it is just the beginning. The work to earn the trust of our friends and neighbours in Bow River starts today," said Bexte in a news release. "Running for office takes courage, and I respect each of them for stepping up to serve our community."

Bexte's platform was based around cutting taxes for farmers, while fighting against Bill C-18, which restricts Canadians from sharing news on certain social media sites such as Facebook and Instagram.

"Now, the real work begins. We must take this energy and focus it on the next election, because the stakes for Canada have never been higher," added Bexte. "I will fight tirelessly to earn every vote, to represent every member of this riding, and to ensure Bow River has a voice that Ottawa cannot ignore."

Bexte will replace Martin Shields, who has served as the MP for the Bow River riding since 2015. Shields announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking re-election.
