17-year-old girl arrested after biting police officer

A 17-year-old girl is in custody after assaulting a Winnipeg police officer.

Winnipeg police were patrolling the 700 block of Pacific Avenue Saturday evening on an unrelated matter, when they located a 17-year-old girl who was wanted on several arrest warrants. She was intoxicated and transported to hospital for medical assessment. 

Just before midnight, while at the hospital, the teen barricaded herself in the bathroom. While attempting to secure the suspect, the youth bit an officer in the lower body. The officer suffered minor injuries and will require medical follow-up as a result of the assault. 

The youth faces a long list of charges, including assault on a peace officer.

She remains in custody.
