A second-degree murder charge has been laid in the death in South Calgary on Tuesday, March 11.

Members of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) called to a home in the community of Legacy at around 2 a.m. with reports of an altercation and a man in medical distress.

The man was found dead when police arrived, and a suspect was taken into custody.

This marks Calgary's fourth homicide of the 2025.

According to CPS, a weapon is believed to have been involved in the fight.

The victim was a man in his 60s, who CPS believes was not from the Calgary area. His name has not yet been released, pending the notification of his next of kin.

Police have charged 37-year-old Stefan Simion Bel of Calgary with second-degree murder, and he's due to appear in court on Friday, March 14.
