A congregation in Carman, Manitoba is mourning the loss of their church building.
Grace St. John's Anglican Lutheran Church went up in flames early Thursday morning.
"We had some devastating news," said the Grace St. John's Anglican Lutheran Church in a post on Facebook. "There was a fire at the church. Please keep us in your prayers."
When crews arrived, flames and smoke were pouring from the church. It took hours to get the blaze under control.
The church sustained significant damage.
Bishop Jason Zinko, Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, said Grace-St. John's is a Christian community in the Anglican and Lutheran tradition, served by MNO Synod Pr. Trudy Thorarinson.
He asked that Manitobans join in prayer with Thorarinson and her congregation as they mourn the loss of their church.
"Please pray for comfort and strength for this community as they grieve and process the loss of their building," said Zinko in a statement. "May the peace of Christ sustain this community through this time."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
