Two avalanches over the weekend in the Rocky Mountains claimed two lives.
The first avalanche happened on Friday, March 14 in the backcountry of Kananaskis.
The avalanche occurred near Mount Black Prince, just off Highway 742.

Cochrane and Stoney Nakota RCMP assisted Kananaskis Mountain Rescue and Kananaskis Emergency Services shortly after 4 p.m.Â
The investigation revealed four skiers were skiing when the avalanche occurred. A 34-year-old woman from Calgary was carried away and buried in snow by the avalanche. Despite the efforts of the three other skiers, they were unable to revive her, and first responders declared her deceased at the scene.
Also, on Friday, March 14th at approximately the same time, around 3:45 p.m. Lake Louise RCMP responded to an avalanche near the Lake Louise Ski Resort.

According to Avalanche Canada, two skiers were working their way from Pipestone Bowl, which is outside the Lake Louise ski area, when the party triggered an avalanche.
One of the two skiers was caught and buried under approximately 150 to 200 cm of snow. The other skier was able to get them out and start first aid. However, after Parks Canada Visitor Safety evacuated the injured skier, they died from their injuries.
Avalanche Canada had issued warnings just days before the two tragedies occurred.
