The Foothill Falcons senior basketball teams recently competed to see if they were provincial champions.

The girls began the regional tournament against the Medicine Hat Hawks, where both teams battled it out early on, allowing for a close game between the two teams.

While there were several lead changes throughout the game, both teams' defences played well, and every point was contested, as both teams played with the intensity that the championships bring about.

In the end, though, the Falcons were able to prevail, thanks to a late game run, and won the game 66-59.

During the championship game, the 4th-ranked senior girls took on the 5th-ranked Spruce Grove Panthers.

The Panthers got an early run, but the Falcons were able to come back to make it a close game, even though they were trailing for most of the game.

In the late third quarter, the Falcons went on a run and ended up in the lead by the end of the third.

Unfortunately, though, they were not able to cling to the lead, and the Panthers won the championship 66-56.

The senior boys went into the championship with a depleted roster.

There was a knee injury, lung infections, flu symptoms, ankle injuries, tweaked knees, and a plethora of bumps and bruises, and Coach Amron Gwilliam says it was probably their least healthy roster this season.

Regardless, they still showed up to compete.

Their first game was against the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs, where the Falcons were able to get 26 points in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs were able to keep pace, as they were able to score 23 points themselves.

During the second quarter, the Falcons were able to find the net numerous times, all while their defence kept the Bulldogs from barely scoring, resulting in a score of 56-36 for the Falcons at halftime.

The second half saw less defence and more offence than the first half, as both teams went on a scoring streak.

Even though the Bulldogs were able to close the lead, the Falcons were still able to pull ahead with a 105-94 victory.

At the regional championship game, the Falcons took on the O'Leary Spartans for the third time this season.

The Spartans used their size to their advantage and came out of the gate on fire.

The Falcons received an early foul hindered them a bit, but they were not able to find the net as easily as they had the game prior.

By the third quarter, the Falcons were down by roughly 25 points, and they began to increase their defensive pressure.

Eventually, the Falcons were able to get ahead, and their defence was trapping the Spartans everywhere on the floor throughout the fourth quarter.

But, despite their best efforts, the Spartans were able to regain the lead, winning the championship 80-67.
