Many High River residents are wondering what all those flags and spray-paint markers are doing around town.

Ledcor Technical Services and Fibre Connect have been working since last year marking the areas they need to dig in order to install fibre optics lines.

The Town is asking everyone to please leave the flags and spray-paint markers where they are to speed up the construction process.

Some representatives are also going door to door in some cases as they need to dig into the 'utility right of way'.  They will not be digging under anyone's home or business as was earlier reported.

The companies are installing conduits within utility and public rights of way.

What this means is a portion of your yard may be made up of a 'utility right of way' where the town and utility companies have access to buried utilities.

Once the construction is complete homes and businesses will increase their bandwidth and speed for internet services.

It's expected to upgrade approximately 5,000 homes and businesses.

If you have any questions the Town of High River is encouraging you to contact Fibre Connect directly at info@fibreconnect.com or 1-800-503-2731.
