A 22-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after crashing a stolen vehicle into a light standard in St. James and then fleeing.
The incident happened on Sunday at around 10:15 a.m. Officers responded to Ness Avenue and Ferry Road where they found a red Mitsubishi that had struck a light standard.
The adult driver and female passenger took off before police arrived, leaving the area in a ride-sharing vehicle.
Officers spotted the vehicle at Ness Avenue and Olive Street and were able to stop it. Both occupants were arrested and taken into custody.
An investigation determined that the vehicle involved in the collision had been previously reported stolen on March 11 in the area of Broadway and Sherbrook. It was involved in a crash at Notre Dame Avenue and Wall Street before fleeing southbound on Erin Street and colliding with the light standard at Ness and Ferry.
No injuries were reported at either collision.
Officers searched the vehicle and located and seized a firearm bolt carrier, machete, approximately 2.7 grams of Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $135 and a possession and acquisition firearms license not in either suspect's name.
The firearm part was determined to belong to a .22 Calibre Stevens Rifle reported stolen in 1975 from Ottawa. The PAL document had also previously been reported stolen.
A 22-year-old man is facing several charges. He remains in custody.
The 22-year-old female passenger was not charged and released on her own recognizance.
