Members of the True North Society are hosting a special event to raise funds for residents impacted by domestic violence.

The group serves residents in Strathmore and over 15 surrounding communities.

Rochelle Mathieu, events and fundraiser lead for True North, said the Spring Tea & Fashion Show fundraiser will be hosted at The Gathering Ranch April 26.

"We are going to be doing a model call for kids and people of all ages. We think it will be really fun to do a mom-and-me portion of the fashion show, and we think that will encourage our younger attendees to participate."

According to Mathieu, the vibe for the afternoon will be inspired by Bridgerton.

"There's going to be a lot of florals and really spring inspired. The afternoon is going to focus on hope and just really setting the scene for a fun and uplifting afternoon."

There will also be a tribute to Moms along with kid-friendly activities, decor, and a digital photo booth.

Funds raised for the event will go directly to programming at the society.

"We provide short-term emergency shelter community programming, supportive counselling referral, and advocacy," added Mathieu.

The organization is hoping to raise between $5,000 to $7,000.

Our local area goes as far north as Trochu, as far east as Drumheller and Hussar, as far south as Milo and Mossleigh, and as far west as Chestermere. Over the year there were 1,959 calls to our crisis line, which is open 24/7," said Mathieu.

Mathieu told StrathmoreNow that during 2023-24, a total of 20,412 minutes were spent by Crisis Intervention Workers to help residents, 1,079 shelter admission requests, and 386 hours of yoga programming.

As well, 2,922 hours of child and youth programming were finished, and 192 children were served in the Children and Youth Program.
