The weather this Thursday may add an extra spring to your step.

Thursday, March 20, is the first day of Spring, and according to Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Justin Shelley, the daytime high could reach the double digits.

"It does look like we are going to be seeing warmer temperatures to start off that season," Shelley explains. "Likely going to be a bit on the cloudier side and a bit breezy with some winds coming out of the west with gusts of up to 50km/h during the day."

Shelley adds that it should be relatively dry that day as well, but there is a chance of flurries west of Okotoks.

The temperature for the first day of Spring is currently forecasted to be between 7 and 9°C, but Shelley says it could get into the double digits.

"It's going to be well above average to start off the astronomical season, as daytime highs for this time of year typically are about plus 4 to plus 5 degrees."

On March 19, the first day of Spring in 2024, Okotoks reached a temperature of 4°C.

While last year's first day of Spring was only 4 degrees, it had been warmer leading up to March 19, and the first day of Spring marked the beginning of a cool-down period.

This year, though, there are cooler temperatures leading up to Spring. The days following will get warmer, even though there is a chance we could receive some moisture.
