A Strathmore curler is celebrating a big milestone.

"It was amazing to win, for sure," said Andrew Southworth.

The club celebrated its 100th game together over the weekend and won the U15 provincial championships.

"We've been together for two years now, and as we started as our team that was our goal was to win the Alberta Winter Games, which was last year, and then to win provincials."

Southworth has been curling for eight years and picked up the sport when his family participated in bonspiels.

"I was three or four at the time when they did that, and I've loved it ever since."

The team practices out of the Okotoks Curling Club two to three times a week with two players from Okotoks, one from Calgary, and Southworth from Strathmore.

"We all practice together and stay at the same hotels together. It's just really great to be a part of a team that's bigger than almost a family."

Southworth said work ethic is key in the sport.

"A lot of it is just communication and support and coaching. To perform the best, you can you need good coaches, and you need to work hard."

Up next for the club is a bonspiel tournament this weekend.
