Serena Bauml
January 27, 1936 – March 17, 2025
Serena Elizabeth Bauml (nee Gessner), 89 years of Moose Jaw and formerly of Humboldt, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 17, 2025. Serena was born on January 27, 1936 at home on the farm near Marysburg to William “Bill” and Julia (nee Therres) Gessner. She grew up on the farm and attended the local country school. Serena then worked for a short time for the Schulte family as a domestic helper. She married Jerome Bauml in February 1953 and they were blessed with two children, Patrick and Susan. Sadly, Jerome passed away on June 12, 1976. On July 2, 1977 Serena married Gerhard “Garry” Bauml and the two enjoyed almost 42 years together. Throughout the years, Serena worked at numerous retail businesses in Humboldt. She was a hard worker and valued employee everywhere she worked. Serena was a sports enthusiast, playing softball, curling and bowling and enjoying most sports on TV. She loved gathering with family and friends for socializing and a game of cards, especially cribbage. Serena was musically talented, playing the violin and guitar and always enjoyed when groups of friends would gather to play and sing. She was a member of Helping Hands, the CWL and the Guardian Angels. In the last few years, Serena had lived in Moose Jaw where she was closer to her daughter Susan and enjoyed their many visits and outings together. Serena’s family would like to thank the staff at both Crescent Park Retirement Villa and the Pioneer Lodge for their kindness and care for Serena in the past few years, she truly felt “at home”. Serena will be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law VALERIE Bauml (Patrick’s wife) and their family Trevor Bauml, Trent (Annette) Bauml and children Mayson Bolton (Matt), Kai and Miller, Crystal (Mat) Poulin and daughter Olivia, and Michael (Katie) Bauml and children Benjamin and Brea; and daughter SUSAN (Victor) Salzsauler and family Justin Poss, Mason Bauml (Shayna) and his children Everett and Garrett, and Katelynn (Darren) Forster; and dear to her heart Shayna’s children Oakley and Jordan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Serena was predeceased by her first husband Jerome Bauml (1976); second husband Gerhard Bauml (2019); son Patrick Bauml (2017); parents William and Julia Gessner; and siblings Sylvia Hassen and Ronald (Karen) Gessner. The Funeral Mass for Serena was held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Interment followed at Assumption Cemetery, Marysburg. Memorial Donations in Serena’s memory may be made to Assumption Cemetery Fund.
