A person wanted for murder in the Northwest Territories now has a Canada wide warrant.

At 12:46 a.m. on March 15, the Fort Providence RCMP received numerous calls indicating that three people had been shot in a Fort Providence residence.

Once the officers arrived on the scene, they found a 31-year-old deceased male.

Another male was found injured on scene and was transported to the health center.

A third male had already been taken to the health center prior to the police arrival and was airlifted to Yellowknife to receive emergency treatment.

The Northwest Territories RCMP Major Crime Unit are leading the investigations and have charged Krystian Cogswell, 22, of Surrey, British Columbia with:

  • Murder
  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Assault (2 counts)

Cogswell remains at large and the RCMP says he is to be considered armed and dangerous, which has prompted a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

So far, the investigation has shown that Cogswell has fled Fort Providence after the shooting and has most likely made his way south of the Territory.

Cogswell is also wanted on a separate warrant from the Inuvik RCMP Detachment in connection with drug trafficking offences from July 2024.

At the time of this incident, Cogswell was subject to bail conditions and was required to reside in British Columbia and not be in the Northwest Territories.

Any information on Cogswell's whereabouts is asked to be given to your local police station or RCMP Detachment.

For those who wish to remain anonymous, information can be given to Crime Stoppers.
