Crews in High River will be hitting the streets soon to clean up after winter.

Even though the street sweeper in High River has already been seen out, the annual town-wide spring sweeping is a couple of weeks away.

The Town will begin its town-wide spring sweep on April 7, and they will be clearing out the winter sanding chips, storm drains, leaves, and road debris, as well as reducing dust on the roads.

When crews begin street sweeping operations, they will work in the Hamptons and Sunshine Lake area from April 7 to 22 and the Montrose, SE/NE Central & Emerson Lake area from April 23 to May 6.

After that, street sweeping crews will do the southwest portion of town from May 7 to 21, and then the northwest portion of town from May 22 to June 6.

While out, the sweepers will collect gravel from the streets, which will be cleaned by a Trommel machine and then added to road salt, which will be used to sand the roads during the winter.

The Town will put out signs in the neighbourhoods getting cleaned 24 hours before the sweeping begins, so residents don't park on the street when crews come through to clean.

They are asking residents to remove any driving ramps or other obstacles as well, and garbage carts can be placed on the sidewalk or lawn if the street is scheduled to be swept on collection day.

Any debris the town misses will be cleaned at a later date.

If you are driving behind or walking near a sweeper, it's advised to keep a safe distance away, because stones and other flying debris can be hazardous, and the area could be dusty, which can reduce visibility.
