There’s a spring flurry of new programs coming out from the Prairie Sky Trails Association, with something for all ages and tastes.
A series of offerings falls under the banner of the Women’s Wellness Initiative. The series is targeted to women 18 years of age or over to help them to achieve wellness in certain areas of their lives, says Director Whitney Shussel
“The program includes yoga therapy, meditation, self-defense, equine therapy and educational seminars,” Shussel explains. “Each activity is facilitated by a local woman, many of whom are well known in the community.”
The programming was introduced in March with a meditation session on International Women’s Day and a SHAPE Facilitation Workshop, both of which were met with positive feedback and strong turnouts.
The programs continue throughout April and May with offerings occurring almost weekly.
Okami Martial Arts returns with a Women Empowered Seminar on April 6 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm at the Prairie Sky Athletic Centre on 9th Street in Humboldt. The self-defense seminar revolves around the most common threat scenarios that women may face in everyday life.
On April 9 at 7:00 pm, Megan Parker of Starts with Nature Health Clinic leads an informative presentation on women’s hormonal health with a focus on different ages and their impact.
Noel Bowman of Gilded Gaits hosts the equine therapy session on April 14 at the facility 15 minutes west of Humboldt. It’s an outdoor session that will focus on activities such as practicing setting and holding boundaries, regulating emotions and relieving stress through an equine connection.
Yoga practice and yoga therapy are currently under way.
Meditation focus returns on April 30 with Isla Kiland leading the practice along with a gentle yoga flow. People can also register for the remaining spaces in the ongoing yoga practice sessions which draw to a close on April 22. Kiland will also be hosting an 8-week prenatal yoga seminar starting on April 29 and running until May 28.
