A Brandon police officer has been charged with assault after a woman was injured during an arrest two years ago.
On Aug. 25, 2023, just before midnight, the Brandon Police Service responded to a report of a woman causing a disturbance. Officers arrested the woman and returned her to her home. A few days later, on Aug. 31, the woman filed a complaint with the Brandon Police Service saying she had sustained injuries during her arrest. On Sept. 15, it came to light that the woman had sustained a broken collarbone.
The Independent Investigation Unit was called in to investigate the incident and on March 19, as a result of the investigation, BPS officer Const. Brett Long was issued a summons. He has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.
The IIU has concluded its investigation and as this matter is now before the courts, will not comment further.
