A nearly month-long strike has come to an end for Foothills education support workers.

On Friday (March 21) afternoon, members of CUPE Local 5040 voted to ratify the deal that was reached with FSD two days prior.

The vote showed 68 per cent of members in favour of accepting the settlement.

CUPE 5040 was the last of the nine CUPE locals on strike, with settlements having been reached with each of the other affected school divisions earlier in the week.

"This marks the end of the largest strike in CUPE Alberta’s history," reads a release from CUPE Alberta.

A statement from FSD Superintendent Chris Fuzessy extended thanks to the bargaining parties from FSD and CUPE 5040, as well as the community for their patience.

"During the strike, our community faced challenges that tested our resilience and unity. I express my deep gratitude for the courage and dedication shown by our team. I am profoundly thankful for the contributions made by everyone involved. It is through such collective effort and determination that we discover our strength in collaboration and connection," the statement partially reads.

The FSD workers will return to work on Monday, March 24.
