A 40-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge after a domestic-related assault turned fatal.

Just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Selkirk Avenue where they found a 33-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she died of her injuries. 

The victim, Stephanie Anderson-Paupanekis was a member of Norway House First Nation and had been living in Winnipeg since 2024. 

Officers were able to locate an adult male nearby and take him into custody with help from the K9 unit.

A 40-year-old man, also a member of Norway First Nation residing in Winnipeg has been charged with Second Degree Murder. He remains in custody.
