The applicant looking to build a cell tower in Diamond Valley is no longer looking to erect it on the Turner Valley Post Office site.
Earlier this month, the Diamond Valley Town Council voiced its strong opposition to the tower being built on the site, citing various concerns, including the area's historical character and the tower's potential effect on tourism.
They encouraged locals to voice their own opposition to the proposal to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, and it seems to have worked.
On Monday, March 24, the Town announced that the proponent is no longer pursuing the project at the historic site, largely due to concerns raised by residents and businesses.
Instead, they'll be working with the town to identify a new site.
The decision will be guided by the Telecommunications Antenna System Siting Protocol, which was adopted by the council at their March 19 meeting.
According to the town, future applications will take the protocol into account in order to identify viable sites that reflect the town's preferences.
Public information sessions will also be held for future applications.
