Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford is looking forward to the eventual end of the COVID-19 pandemic, as we continue to take steps towards that goal.
Now, Health Canada has approved the COVID-19 vaccine for youth between the ages of 5 and 11, and appointments are expected to be available in the region by the week of November 29.
Pediatric data on kids between five and 11 from early October showed a safe and strong immune response from two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, which are one-third the size given to teens and adults.
“I’m hopeful. It’s ambitious, but parents should be able to book appointments through the provincial online booking portal for mass vaccination sites possibly by mid-week,” said Rickford, during an interview with KenoraOnline, DrydenNow and Q104 earlier this week.
The Northwestern Health Unit is also reporting administering over 130,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines across the region, and 90 per cent of the area’s residents aged 12 and older have received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“The response has been great. I think the science supports vaccination, and this is an important step. It’s time to move out of this,” added Rickford.
