On Sunday and Monday, the Adopt-A-Grad Foundation of Canada held their Formal Wear event, making sure all students will be able to attend their graduation in style.
Mike Reist, co-founder of Adopt-A-Grad, explained what the foundation is all about.
"It is an organization that helps graduates get to grad in style. There are two components of what we do, one being the formal event we just had and the second component of our program is adopt-a-grad, where we work with the school faculties to identify any student that may be struggling and we would help support them with grad fees, school fees, and maybe a banquet ticket or two for the family members."
He went on to talk about how the formal event went on Sunday and Monday.
"We had the suits lined up outside and the hundreds of dresses inside. We had about 52 students come to our doors. We didn't turn anybody away. Almost everybody walked away with either a suit or a dress. A few that didn't get anything, we're working on a plan B for them."
All in all, Reist is proud of how the event went and had one fond story where they were able to provide a son and father with a suit.
"We had a young man pick out a suit, and afterwards his dad asked, you know, hesitantly, if you can have a suit too. We're able to get them fitted nicely, and they'll be both looking sharp for the grad day."
He talked about how it makes him feel knowing that they can make what might not have been something these graduates were looking forward to, to something they now are.
"It's an even better feeling when you see the smiles on the parents, especially the moms, when their son or daughter comes out of the change room looking good, and it's a perfect fit."
Reist concluded by thanking the community for their support when it comes to donating the clothes and helping these graduates have a special day they will remember forever.
