Airdrie City Council will decide next month if e-scooters will be returning to Airdrie for the summer.

With summer fast approaching, e-scooters are starting to arrive in surrounding communities, but the City of Airdrie needs to decide if they will be making a return, and Airdronians will have another mode of transportation once again.

Billie-Jo Arnott, the City of Airdrie's Team Leader for transit and active transportation, explained that the city was running a pilot program from 2022 to 2024.

"It included two micro-mobility providers, Bird and Neuron Mobility. Next month, I'm going to the city council to present the successes and results of this pilot program."

The entire pilot program included almost 300,000 kilometers traveled with over 116,000 trips taken.

"Hopefully, we're just gonna go talk to [the] city council, and I would anticipate late May, early June, for [the] implementation date."

She explained that there are clear benefits to bringing them back, one being that the city is currently working on an active transportation plan.

"We are designing a new network of accessible routes and travel options for residents to use small rides such as scooters and bikes for moving around the city."

Arnott concluded by saying that these e-scooters are a fun way to get around the city.

"We had over 20,000 unique riders. So yeah, I think everybody would like to see the e-scooters back, and we're just looking forward to another successful year."
