A Cochrane woman is the latest to join a growing list of local lottery winners after claiming a $100,000 EXTRA prize from a ticket purchased in Balzac. Her big win follows in the footsteps of an Airdrie man who took home $1 million on WESTERN MAX just a few months earlier.

Cochrane’s Shelley Simpson Takes Home $100,000 EXTRA Win

Shelley Simpson’s heart skipped a beat when she realized she had won $100,000 on her LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket. The Cochrane local claimed her windfall after matching the last six digits of the EXTRA number – 2693713 – in the March 7 draw.

"My heart started to palpitate," she laughed while claiming her prize. "It feels pretty good!"

Simpson already has a practical plan for her winnings.

"I’m going to put the money away," she explained. "I’m going to pay some bills."

She purchased her $6 LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket from the Petro-Canada at 100-261200 CrossIron Boulevard in Balzac, a retail hotspot for lottery luck just north of Calgary.

Airdrie Man Won $1 Million WESTERN MAX Prize Months Earlier

Simpson’s win follows another major lottery success in the region. Just a few months earlier, Airdrie’s Michael White won $1 million on WESTERN MAX after matching one of the million-dollar selections – 4, 6, 15, 16, 27, 44, and 49 – in the December 20 draw.

"It’s perfect timing!" White beamed after claiming his prize. "I just retired, and we were planning on buying a truck for my travel trailer to explore Canada in the spring!"

White was eager to hit the road with his new fortune. He and his wife planned to take their dog to Vancouver Island before traveling across Canada.

"We’re going to live the dream!"

But for White, the win wasn’t just about travel. He was also eager to give back to the community that supported him through difficult times.

"Times have been tough [in the past]," he admitted. "At one point, we actually had to use the food bank, so now we’d like to donate and give back to them."

White purchased his winning WESTERN MAX ticket at Kimmer Country Market at 200-800 Veterans Boulevard in Airdrie.

With Simpson’s recent EXTRA win following White’s WESTERN MAX success, it seems Balzac and its surrounding communities are becoming a magnet for lottery luck. From six-figure windfalls to million-dollar jackpots, local residents are proving that buying a ticket nearby could be the first step toward a life-changing win.
