A fire on Monday afternoon closed Airdrie’s transfer site. According to city officials, the fire department was on site to investigate. It is expected that the site will remain closed for the rest of the day.

The transfer site is 7 kilometres west on Highway 567, next to the Airdrie rodeo grounds.

Officials alerted residents to the incident just after 2:30 p.m., advising residents to take hazardous materials — including rechargeable batteries, flammable substances, aerosols and propane containers — to the Recycle Depot.
