With spring break in full swing, Portage la Prairie has events for families and kids of all ages to enjoy and make the most of the week.
The Portage Regional Recreation Authority (PRRA)'s daily activities are a great way to stay active and have fun indoors. Zapphira Major, Recreation Manager, explains what events you can find at Stride Place this week.
“In the 'Shindleman Aquatic Centre,' we have extended special public swim every day, starting either at 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. daily and then going until 7:00 p.m.,” Major says. “On the rink side, we have ‘Sticks N Pucks’ for youth, ‘Sticks N Pucks’ for seniors, family skates, 'Tiny Tots' skates, and regular public skates happening daily.”
Major says their facility’s capacity and business have been booming this week, with many families looking to have fun and escape the cold.
For younger children, the Portage la Prairie Regional Library is hosting 'Storytime' today (Wednesday) at 10:15 a.m. which offers engaging crafts, stories, and activities following the theme of ‘April Fools’.
Families will also want to catch the library’s special 'Spring Break Movie Afternoon' today at 2:00 p.m., featuring ‘Moana 2’. It's a perfect mid-afternoon break for movie lovers of all ages.
Peter Thiessen, the Family Resource Centre's Program Director, outlines a fun event they have taking place this morning.
“We've got 'Grand Pals' which we run at Dufferin Villa. It's an intergenerational program where families with infants or preschoolers can come, play games, and sing some songs with the senior tenants who live there,” Thiessen says.
The program begins at 10:30 a.m. Thiessen says their online registration could be cut off 24 hours before the program begins, but anyone interested can contact the FRC at 204-595-5005 or by email at info@frcportage.ca.
Central Plains RecPlex in Southport has 'Drop-In Bowling' on Saturday morning. This is available to anyone under 17 and for just $10, novice and experienced bowlers alike can enjoy a great time knocking down pins with their friends and families.
With these events and more, spring break 2025 promises fun and laughter for everyone!
