Sarah Zagoda officially announced her candidacy for Member of Parliament in Airdrie-Cochrane in the upcoming federal election last week for the Canada's New Democratic Party (NDP).
According to a press release sent to Discover Airdrie, she is a dedicated mother of three, an experienced technology professional, and a committed community leader. Zagoda is running to bring fresh leadership and integrity to federal politics.
“As a long-time resident of Airdrie and an advocate for collaboration and honesty in government, I am stepping forward to ensure that our voices are truly represented in Ottawa,” said Zagoda. “I believe in trust, honesty, and working together for the greater good. It’s time for leadership that listens, understands, and takes real action for our community.
Zagoda, who supports teachers, administrators, and students at Airdrie's largest high school as the School Technologist, has twenty years of experience in the technology industry.
"In 2021, she was asked to run as the Federal NDP Candidate for Banff-Airdrie, marking the beginning of her political journey. Since then, she has taken on leadership roles as the CEO of the Federal Banff-Airdrie NDP and the President of the Provincial Airdrie-East NDP."
According to the release, she is an active volunteer with local organizations as well as numerous school initiatives, including parent council.
"She settled in Airdrie a decade ago, but her passion for inclusive and ethical governance began in Edmonton. She spent her twenties travelling coast to coast, where she gained the valuable perspectives she brings to her candidacy."
Strengthening public services, tackling issues of affordability, and encouraging cooperation across all governmental levels are among the main themes of her campaign. She is dedicated to promoting policies that lower living expenses for all people, especially families, employees, and small companies in Airdrie-Cochrane, since she is extremely worried about the growing cost of living.
She believes elected representatives should work for their constituents, not against them, and will fight for policies that truly benefit the people of Airdrie-Cochrane regardless of party lines.
"Sarah is proud that the NDP has championed the creation of dental care and pharmacare, and happy to see its latest expansion ensuring Canadians have access to essential healthcare services. She is committed to protecting and expanding these programs so that no family has to choose between their health and financial stability," stated the release.
DiscoverAirdrie did reach out to Zagoda for comment by email but is still waiting for a response.
The other current nominees for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding include:
- Liberal Party of Canada - Sean Secord
- Conservative party of Canada - Blake Richards.
The federal election will take place on April 28th.
