The Kindersley soccer community has been growing steadily, with an enthusiastic group of players committed to both indoor and outdoor seasons. Led by head coach Kevin Codd, the adult indoor league wrapped up a successful winter season, marking a significant step forward by competing in tournaments for the first time.

Indoor Season Success

The winter indoor season typically runs from late November to early spring, with weekly sessions on Friday evenings at local school gyms, primarily at Elizabeth Middle School. This year, the team ventured into competitive play, testing their skills in tournaments against other teams.

Their first tournament in Saskatoon was a tough learning experience, but the team quickly adapted. By the time they competed in Lloydminster, they had not only improved significantly but also secured their first win, just missing out on the semifinals by two goals. Returning to Saskatoon for another tournament, the team showcased even greater development, making it to the semifinals and losing by just one goal.

The program continues to grow, with new players joining regularly, including former youth players. Open to men and women of all skill levels, it fosters an inclusive environment that strengthens the bond between the community and the club.

Looking forwards to the Outdoor Season

As the weather improves, the team transitions to outdoor soccer, typically in May. They play at the Westberry field, a well-maintained pitch that serves as the hub for the outdoor season until late fall. The shift to outdoor play brings new challenges, particularly in securing opportunities for competition. Unlike the indoor season, where tournaments are more accessible, adult tournaments in the summer are harder to find.

One of the program’s primary goals this year is to bring more adult games to Kindersley. While traveling to Saskatoon and Lloydminster has been beneficial, Codd hopes to establish local matches to reduce travel burdens and associated costs.

A Diverse and Welcoming Community

One of the defining features of the Kindersley soccer program is its diversity. Players come from a wide range of backgrounds, including the Solomon Islands, Ukraine, Italy, the UK, Ireland, and Nigeria. Even some local Catholic priests actively participate in weekend games. The mix of experience levels, from university-level players to complete beginners, creates an environment where everyone can learn and improve together.

“There's such a broad range of knowledge,” Codd remarked. “Decades of soccer experience, it's lovely to work with these guys.”

Soccer plays a vital role in bringing people together, regardless of where they are from. Whether playing with friends or watching a local match, the sport fosters a sense of connection and belonging unlike any other.

For those interested in joining, sessions continue every Friday, with locations occasionally changing. New players are always welcome. For more information, contact Kindersley Soccer via Facebook or email at kindersleysoccerinc@gmail.com.
