A snowfall warning issued earlier Tuesday by Environment Canada has since been lifted.
The warning, was in effect for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, called for 5 to 10 centimetres of snow overnight, with some areas possibly seeing up to 15 centimetres. Snow is expected to end by Wednesday morning.
"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations," the agency said. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."
Snow began falling Tuesday afternoon following a period of rain, with a transition to winter driving conditions expected. Environment Canada is warning drivers to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
The Wednesday morning commute may also be dicey, with snow continuing and temperatures hovering near freezing.
The overnight low is -3 C with wind chill near -9. Periods of light snow are forecast for Wednesday, with a high near zero, and another 2 to 4 centimetres possible Wednesday night as temperatures fall to -6 C.
Residents are also to take frequent breaks and avoid overexertion when clearing snow.
