The consumer carbon tax pause on Tuesday saw immediate relief at the pumps around west-central Saskatchewan.
Looking at Gasbuddy.com, fuel around West Central entering Wednesday was below $1.40/L, 136.9 being the low spot for a few locations, Rosetown's price a little higher at 139.9. The average price for the Kindersley region over the past month has been 149.9, and entering the week the provincial average price for Saskatchewan was around $1.53/L.
The around 13 cent dip locally hasn't quite hit around the province, but over the past week the provincial average has still been seeing a decrease with prices about 9 cents lower on average than they were in March.
Prices in Saskatchewan are down 13 cents as a whole from this time last year when gas averaged $1.56/L. With the current savings the Kindersley region has actually recorded an 18 cent drop from this time last year when prices were just under $1.55/L.
More price fluctuation is expected as we get into the summer, with a change to summer gasoline being just one of many factors that could cause a jump at the pump. Expecting things to eventually stabilize, experts can confirm that gas prices would be around 17.6 cents higher due to the carbon tax, and that if it had not been for the pause, gas prices would have actually jumped 20 cents higher.
As of Wednesday morning, gas at the UFA in Kindersley was the cheapest in the province at 125.9.
