The Olds Fire Department is urging drivers to slow down and adjust to changing weather conditions as snow, ice and poor visibility continue to affect roads across much of the region on Wednesday.
"Road conditions are poor in some areas due to changing weather," the department said in a public advisory on social media. Wednesday. "Please slow down, allow extra travel time, and drive to the conditions."
The department also warned motorists to watch for ice, snow and reduced visibility and recommended checking road reports before travelling.
The advisory follows several highway incidents across the region Wednesday morning, including multiple jackknifed semis on the QEII near Carstairs. An early morning multi-vehicle collision in Calgary had closed Stoney Trail N.W. southbound from Crowchild Trail to Nose Hill Drive for several hours. The road has since re-opened.
Environment Canada forecast flurries throughout the day, with a local snowfall amount of two centimetres. Winds are expected to reach up to 15 km/h, with a high of 0 C and a morning wind chill near –6.
Snow is expected to continue into the evening and taper off overnight, with another two to four centimetres possible. Winds up to 15 km/h and a low of –7 C are forecast, with a wind chill of –12 overnight.
