Sean Secord has been named the Liberal candidate for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding in the upcoming federal election.
In an email to DiscoverAirdrie, Secord said he is eager to connect with residents of Airdrie, Cochrane and surrounding areas to hear their concerns and discuss his priorities.
"I am particularly interested in addressing aspects of healthcare as this consistently emerges as a priority issue, and, ultimately, our health, social determinants of health, and access to vital resources are interconnected with every aspect of our lives," he said.
Secord wrote that as a Cochrane resident with long-standing family ties in Airdrie and other Alberta communities, he brings strong advocacy and a deep understanding of the riding.
"I hold master's degrees in healthcare and business, as well as a Certified Health Executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Currently, I serve as Vice President of an Alberta-based biotechnology company that specializes in early disease detection," he shared. "Prior to this, I pioneered new roles with a pan-Canadian Health Organization that advised trovincial, territorial and federal health systems as well as health authorities and even individual providers on evidence-based approaches to healthcare delivery and resource allocation to achieve best health outcomes."
Earlier in his career, Secord led quality improvement and risk management for Yukon's three hospitals. From 2012 to 2014, he managed the completion, staffing and opening of two newly built hospitals. In the 2000s, he played a key role in establishing Yukon's dedicated medevac program.
"My diverse clinical experience ranges from being the sole healthcare provider in a rural town to emergency, critical care, and public health. Growing up in a rural setting has fueled my advocacy for communities like Airdrie and Cochrane," he said.
He added that his time in the North deepened his appreciation for the contributions of Indigenous communities, and he is committed to ensuring their voices are heard and represented.
"Though our towns are growing, I am proud to see that their neighborly warmth remains intact. However, I recognize that infrastructure, education, healthcare, and community services must keep pace with this growth and will require advocacy towards resource allocations. I am dedicated to passionately representing Airdrie and Cochrane in Ottawa if elected."
