The City of Chestermere is set to receive two new schools.
"As one of Alberta’s fastest-growing communities, this investment is a significant step in ensuring our students have access to high-quality education close to home," the city said in a release.
Construction funding has been approved for a Kindergarten to Grade 9 school, which will be built in the community of Dawson's Landing.
"The site is already nearly prepared, and our administration is working diligently to finalize access and services to ensure a smooth construction process," the city added.
Planning funding has also been approved for a high school in the community of Chelsea.
"Within nine months, council and administration have worked with Rocky View Schools and the Government of Alberta and now have construction funding for a new public K-9 school and planning funding for a new public high school," said Chestermere Mayor Shannon Dean.
"We have not had a new school open in Chestermere since 2014. I am so proud of the work of this council and administration. It is amazing what can happen when we all work together for the betterment of our community."
Chestermere recently completed its 2024 census, which determined that 28,129 people are living in the city.
Opening dates for both schools have yet to be determined by Rocky View Schools.
