This past weekend, the Weyburn Curling Club hosted the 2025 Provincial Seniors Men's and Women's Curling Championship. Chair Chris Mass says it was a successful event.
“It exceeded my expectations, actually. Weyburn, give yourselves a pat on the back. We had lots of people come to watch. The stands were packed with people. Thank you very much for showing up.”
The championship saw two athletes move on to the national championships, men's winner Bruce Korte with the Nutana Curling Club and women's winner Amber Holland with the Sutherland Curling Club.
Mass extends thanks to those who made the event possible, including volunteers and members of the Curling Club.
“I want to thank all of the volunteers. I'm not going to name you all because I'll miss somebody, and I don't want to do that, but you guys all did an excellent job, and I'm so, so thankful.”
"Jim Nikolejsin, Lisa Knobloch, and Glenn Albertson and his ice crew. I don't know how many curlers came up to me and said, ‘boy, that ice is sure good’ and curlers have to be happy, and they certainly were."
He also mentions Paige Tenbult with the City of Weyburn for her help with communications, and the local businesses for their sponsorship and support.
“Bike Tricks, Electric Bikes, and our local sponsors, Barber Motors, Pro Touch Signs, Prairie Sky Co-op, Travelodge, Michael's Coffee Shop, and Bakery. They were all so excited to do something for this event.”
“Once again, everyone who came out to watch and support. If you guys don't come out and watch and support these events, they just won't happen and thank you very much for that.”
