Nash Wassing is lighting up the back of the net.

Wassing, originally from Strathmore, plays with the Grand Forks Border Bruins of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL).

"It's where I first learned to play. It's where I made all those first connections with all my friends playing hockey," he said of his time in Strathmore.

He was recently named one of the league's three stars of the week.

"I've got good linemates, got good teammates, and they're just helping me out and I've been able to put the puck in the net," Wassing said.

Wassing has led the Border Bruins to a 2-0 playoff series lead over the Kimberly Dynamiters with five goals and an assist.

"The 6-4, 200-pound forward scored a hat-trick in their 6-4 Game 1 win on March 28. Then in a 6-0 win in Game 2, he scored twice, including the winner and collected an assist," the KIJHL said in a release.

"Wassing is second in KIJHL Teck Cup playoff scoring with 15 points in 10 games, including nine goals."

The big forward says if he has an opportunity to make it to the next level of hockey he wants to take it.

"I haven't really made any decisions for the future. Just kind of enjoying the time right now," he said.

The Border Bruins take on the Kimberley Dynamiters on Wednesday night for Game 3 at 7 p.m.
